The Ashtanga Primary Series

Join Flo Sheffield for a workshop that dives deep into the Ashtanga Primary series. We will start with a brief discussion about the practice and its history, as well as basics of the primary series specifically. Class will then move into the asana, physical practice where you will then be guided through the entire primary series; stopping along the way to explore and break down some of the elusive poses. Of course making these poses not so elusive!

Meet Flo:

"I believe strongly in the power of yoga. After trauma I found myself seeking for ways to heal. I initially started my yoga practice with vinyasa and eventually found my way to Ashtanga Yoga.

I have had an on-again off-again relationship with Ashtanga Yoga since 2007. The practice forced me to see things about myself I wasn't entirely ready to see. I wasn't ready when Ashtanga initially showed up in my life; and I would bounce between Vinyasa classes and Ashtanga classes for many years until Taylor Hunt's workshop. During this time I was struggling with getting and staying Sober. After multiple relapses I made the decision to do whatever it took to get Sober and that included building an Ashtanga Practice. During this time I gained so much clarity and focus, as well as a healthier body and mind. I slowly changed the course of my life; literally Ashtanga Yoga saved my life.

I have continued to study and practice with Taylor multiple times a year to ensure continued growth on and off my mat. I have completed multiple Ashtanga intensives, workshops and attended the 1st Ashtanga & Addiction Forum under Taylor's teaching; and I am incredibly grateful for his guidance through Ashtanga and sobriety. I also completed an apprenticeship with Balance Yoga during 2016-2018 to learn how to teach in a Mysore setting and taught as part of the Mysore program during this time. I have branched out to create our own Ashtanga community on the south side of Atlanta and it is a beautiful growing community.

I have also studied with senior ashtanga teachers: Shartha Jois Tour 2016, Tim Feldmann, Kino MacGregor, David Keil, David Swenson, David Garrigues, David Robson, Laruga Glaser.

My hope is to help others through the combined power of Ashtanga and recovery."

Some vinyasa experience is suggested.

Postures can and will be modified for injuries and limitations.

Tea Roman, RYT 200, joins River Flow Yoga for an evening of sound bath meditation. Rooted in an ancient approach to sound, you will be guided through a combination of gentle restorative yoga incorporating powerful Tibetan Bowl frequencies and accompanied transcending vibrations of the digeridoo and flute. This is a beautiful, healing practice where ALL are encouraged to join. Truly an experience you do not want to miss!

Tea Roman began his journey in sound, meditation and yoga at a young age, through the crystal sound healing practices of his grandmother - an advanced Kundalini Yogi. From that point, his path took him around the world, studying the roots of these ancient sciences. His training includes studies in Rotterdam, Netherlands with the world renowned bamboo flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia. Tea then under went rigorous Indian Classical Music training while living in Chinmaya Ashram - Kolvan, India. Now, his Suizen (blowing meditations) recordings are respected around the world by some of the most advance Zen Meditation practitioners. Not limited to the practice of meditation and sound, Tea also has an advance knowledge of yogic practice, having completed his teacher training in the birthplace of yoga - Rishikesh, India. During a stay in the Himalayan area of Dharamshala, Tea was given some of the most powerful '9-Metal' singing bowls available. These bowls are one of the key elements of his workshops. Coming full circle with his in depth, practical, scientific and metaphysical knowledge of sound, meditation and yoga; Tea has developed a holistic practice that provides one of the purest experiences of enlightenment and consciousness available in the Western World.

Join Abi Lynne Wright, E-RYT 200, for a (re)introduction of the Ashtanga Yoga practice. We'll take this in 2 parts:

The Foundations of the practice: Chat about the Ashtanga Yoga practice and history as taught by Pattahbi Jois, talk about the benefits and method of Ashtanga, and work through some of the signature movements and poses though the lens of the Tristana Method (breath, asana and pranayama).

Primary Series Breakdown: In part two we will move through the poses of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. We will break down the elements of each pose (through Half-Primary), go over alignment, adjustments, and some tips for working the poses on your own, and talk about how each pose builds on each other and prepares you for what's to come.

Definitely come prepared to move, to shine, to burn brightly!

Abi Lynne Yoga (E-RYT 200 is an Ashtanga Yoga teacher based out of Columbus, Ohio where she studies closely with Authorized Level II teacher, Taylor Hunt at Ashtanga Yoga Columbus. Since beginning her practice with Ashtanga in 2015, she has taught Mysore in Chattanooga, TN at Yoga Landing, apprenticed and assisted Taylor at AYC and led the evening Mysore program. She also teaches weekly classes at Columbus Public Health with the Trini Foundation to help bring yoga to students in recovery. In August 2018, she made her first trip to Mysore India to study with R. Sharath Jois at KPJAYI and hopes to make yearly trips to deepen her studies. She has also had the opportunity to study with other authorized teachers of the Ashtanga method: Krista Shirley, Harmony Slater, Tim Feldmann and David Robson. She currently practices through the Third Series or Advanced A in Ashtanga Yoga.

Fascia! What is it? Where is it? What is its role in the body?! Join Toni for a myofascia release class using therapy balls.

There's a TON of talk out there on fascia right now, but basically: fascia is a web of tissue that surrounds your muscles, tendons, ligaments, organs... And literally connects the bottoms of your feet to the top of your head. This network sends and receives messages throughout the body, and goes hand in hand with the channels, or nadis, of your body. Just as yoga, massage, and meditation help to relax and open the body, myofascial release therapy can bring healing and allow prana to flow.

In this workshop you will:
-Talk about your fascia network. 
-"Roll" through a fascia class to work deeply into your areas of injury or pain.
-Receive your very own Yoga Tune Up Therapy Balls.
-Leave with tools to prevent injury given your lifestyle habits.
